About us
Our story begun in July 2014 in Broome WA (Australia) where we met while both travelling with different companions.
We've been living in Australia for 4 years, where we've been working and travelling with people from around the world and seen most of Australia on the road as backpackers.
Last year we have decided to quit everything and start living our life for real, we moved to Costa Rica on the pacific coast, where we've been for the last 10 months.
And now... we just moved to live on another island.. well let's say it's a bit smaller though..!

Carlo, a guy on his 30s with a strong attitude and passion for survival and outdoor activities. He’s been volunteering in the Italian Army and owned a café in his city Rimini (Italy), then moved to Australia willing to work and make a different experience. He’s been travelling with a friend in a ‘removal truck’ as a gipsy, moving from town in town and stop working here and there. That was his first experience abroad.
Lara, a young girl from a little town near Garda’s Lake and Verona (Italy), that left home at her 20s to start following her passions. She lived one year in London (Uk) where improved her skills and knowledge. In 2012 she decided to move forward and go for a great experience in Australia, where she’s been doing different jobs, from waitressing to farm work, from packing veggies to cook on a pearling boat in the Indian Ocean. In 2 years she explored all Australia on the road, actually did all the coast around sleeping in a van, surfing with dolphins, swimming with whale sharks, green turtles, seen tiger sharks and whales.
She is a traveler on a budget, she likes organize her travels and meet new friends. She travelled on her own in Indonesia, Thailand and Europe too.
Living in Australia was really a great experience, but visa is the real struggle. Every year you have to apply for a new visa, response can come in months, so after 2 years we have decided we were tired of this rat race and decided to travel and try to settle in Costa Rica.
Our dream had always been to travel and learn more about this world, but we have been working all year round and for this reason we realized we really needed to change something: life is only one and it’s not meant to be lived in just one place!
And that’s how our project Carlo & Lara Travel Pirates started exactly a year ago.
Living day by day as pirates and doing what we love in order to find out our path..
We feel lucky because we have found each other, the 2 halves of the apple met in the other side of the world! We love living together 24 hrs and following the same dream, together we believe that we can achieve it!
